Baking Soda: why you should all have some at home

You must all have heard of Baking Soda utility at home, especially in the kitchen. But its utility and health benefits are largely known and experienced worldwide, so it’s time to make a list of its most common uses.

The ancient Egyptians used it already to produce glass and pottery, while the Romans used it as a leavening agent in food. Actually, many civilizations found its utility for making bread and other foods that need a rising agent.

By 1860s, Baking Soda was featured in many published cookbooks. By 1930s, the medical community was advertising it as a “proven medical agent”. And 150 years ago, its cooking and household uses became widely popularized.

So let’s make a brief recap of how to best use it.

Baking Soda, or Sodium Bicarbonate, is a natural non-toxic compound found on the planet and in our bodies as well. It is especially produced in our saliva and our kidneys to regulate our body’s pH.

Because it has an extremely high pH, it is very alkalizing and can therefore help balance the acidic body that is often the result of a modern toxic lifestyle.  Many studies have shown that an overall too acidic body can trigger many serious diseases, from the most common chronic ones, to cancer.

Special note on Cancer: more studies might still be needed, but is has been seen that Cancer cells are the only cells in our body that live without oxygen, which means they can only survive in an acidic state: they don’t breathe Oxygen and can literally not survive in presence of high levels of Oxygen, which means in an alkaline state. That’s one of the reasons why many natural healers, as well as persons in modern medicine, started using Baking Soda to prevent or even treat some disastrous symptoms of the toxic modern life, including some cancer patients.

By including Baking Soda in some of your daily habits, you can help your body fight off many toxins and boost your Immune System.

Choose an ALUMINIUM-FREE Baking Soda. This is a MUST if you want to enjoy most of the benefits, as Aluminium is a highly toxic an poisonous heavy metal.

Here are a few of my favorite uses:

1.       Use Baking Soda in your Bath soak

I often add it to some EPSOM SALTS and soak in this highly detoxifying bath for at least 20-30 minutes. Add 5 Tablespoons and fill your bath tub to the top.

2.       Homemade toothpaste

Baking Soda helps remove plaque. Mix 1 teaspoon with water, rub the paste against your teeth for 5 minutes and rinse. Do it just a few times a week (not every day) and you will improve your gums and teeth health, and even whiten your teeth.

3.       Natural deodorant

Please read my article about HARMFUL COMMERCIAL DEODORANTS if you haven’t yet. Baking Soda is an easy way to clean up and deodorize your armpits. Sprinkle some Baking Soda under your arms and let nature do its wonderful magic :-)

4.       Treat bug bites

Just rub some Baking Soda on your bitten skin and let it act. Expect relief and earlier healing from those mosquitoes’ bites!

5.       Vegetables and Fruits wash

Even if you buy organic vegetables and fruits, you might want to wash/rinse them before eating them. Instead of using toxic chemical-laden soap, scrub them with some baking soda. This will clean them up and if you absorb some baking soda in the process, good for you!

6.       Ease digestion and heartburn

Mix 1 teaspoon in a glass of water and drink. This will relieve heartburn symptoms. And if you need some digestion help, add 1 Tablespoon of APPLE CIDER VINEGAR to the mix. Expect less bloating and a real digestion relief.

7.       Clean your clothes, especially baby clothes

Most detergents, as most of household products, are full of heavy metals and other hazardous chemical toxins. So choose natural products. Mix 1 Tablespoon of Baking Soda in 1 cup of Water to scrub the most difficult stains. What you put on your skin is absorbed into your body. So if you use toxic chemical products on your clothes, you will be absorbing some particles as you wear them. Just realize the impact and make better choices for you, your family and the planet.

8.       Strengthen your Garden plants naturally

To kill off or discourage bugs and fungi from invading your plants, mix 4 teaspoons of Baking Soda in 1 Gallon of Water and pray it onto your plants. Easy, very effective, toxins-free and super cheap.

9.       Main households uses:

-          Clean your shower curtains

-          Wash your car by mixing ¼ Cup of Baking Soda to 1 Cup of Warm water

-          Let your pans or pots soak in Baking Soda for 15-20 minutes

-          Sprinkle your carpets and remove the toughest strains

10.    Overall therapeutic health benefits of Baking Soda

-          Eases stomach pain, bloating/gas, ulcer pain

-          Helps fight off diseases and infections

-          Kills fungi, mold and parasites

-          Helps treat cough and sore throat, cold and flu symptoms

-          Helps balance your body’s pH

-          Helps decrease gout’s symptoms

-          Improves your kidney’s health

-          Helps treat Urinary Tract Infections

-          Helps relieve muscle pain and fatigue, especially after exercising

This is why mixing 1 teaspoon in a glass of water per day can help improve your overall health state.

BE CAREFUL:

If you are suffering with Edema, liver or kidney disease, high blood pressure or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, AVOID INTERNAL USE OF BAKING SODA.

Also not recommended for children under 5.

If you are on prescription drugs or sodium-restricted diet, ask your doctor.

In general, if you have any special health condition, speak to your health practitioner before making it a regular habit.

As a rule of thumb, avoid using it daily internally for more than 2 weeks in a row, maximum 5g a day. Ask for advice for a longer period of internal use than this.

I hope this gave you some good insight of how you can use a toxin-free life and how easy it can be.

Just educate yourself and be open to change some habits. When you start feeling better, and more energized, you will regret that you haven’t started earlier :-)

In Health and Happiness,
