Moringa: the magical Superfood

Hello Everyone,

A very good friend of mine offered me the other day a beautiful jar of Moringa leaves powder. I knew already how good this plant is, but now that I have been consuming it regularly and that I really feel good with it, I thought: ok, let’s make some research and see exactly what his is about :-)

Moringa tree is still being called the “Miracle Tree” or “Drumstick Tree”. It is native to India, and has been used for more than 4000 years in Ayurveda medicine to cure more than 300 diseases. Today, we can find it around most tropical regions.

Moringa tree leaves, oil, powder are still quite unknown here in the western word. But many research and studies have been done around it and confirm the many health benefits for us.

First of all, Moringa extracts are a powerhouse full of nutrient-dense compounds. they are very rich in essential vitamins and minerals. 100g of Moringa leaves have:

-          9 times more protein than a yoghurt

-          25 times more iron than spinach

-          12 times more Vitamin C than oranges

-          17 times more Calcium than a glass of milk

-          15 times more Potassium than bananas

-          10 times more Vitamin A (and Beta-Carotene) than carrots

Therefore, including Moringa regularly in our daily food intake can have amazing results and help us in many different ways. Let's see the main ones:

1.       Brain health:

Moringa has been proven to normalize neurotransmitters levels like serotonin, dopamine and noradrenaline. They play a key role in overall mental health, depression, anxiety, psychosis, but also stress response, mood, and overall organs function.

2.       Natural detoxification enhancer

Moringa components help your body restore liver enzymes. These are essential for blood detoxification, fructose metabolism, fat metabolism and bile production.

Also, it helps protect us from Arsenic toxicity: Arsenic can be found today mainly in food (rice especially) and water. It is a highly toxic poison and Moringa helps protecting the liver from it by reducing direct toxic liver damage.

3.       Anti-inflammatory force

Moringa helps suppressing inflammatory enzymes, and therefore is a potent anti-inflammatory help. Think of inflammations like:

-          Headaches: rub some Moringa leaves and buds on your temples

-          Moringa leaves are powerful for:

o   catarrh (mucus inflammation)

o   fevers

o   bronchitis

o   eye/ear infections

o   scurvy

o   glandular swelling (apply poultice made with fresh Moringa leaves)

o   muscle and joint ache

4.       Blood pressure and blood sugar regulation

Moringa leaves juices help stabilize blood pressure. And on top of that, studies show that a daily consumption of Moringa for 3 months decreases blood sugar levels by 13.5%.

Another small study made on diabetic women shows that a daily consumption of 50g of Moringa leaves added to a meal reduces the rise in blood sugar by 21%. These are quite important outcomes.

5.       Digestive stress

A good help for diarrhea, dysentery, colitis: have Moringa leaves juice with some raw honey, then coconut milk for 2-3 days

6.       Diuretic, purgative effect

Mix Moringa leaves with Carrot Juice to taste and you have a powerful diuretic made home. It’s been proven that Moringa leaves help eliminate water weight.

If you are a beginner among the Moringa lovers, start with just half a tsp to 1 tsp of Moringa powder per day, and increase your dose slowly to avoid any harsh bowel reaction...!

7.       Antiseptic, antimicrobial, antifungal, antibacterial effect

Moringa leaves help kill intestinal worms, and other parasites and fungus infections.

Apply some Moringa leaves juice on your skin for a great natural antiseptic effect.

8.       Help nursing women for milk production

Eating regularly Moringa leaves has been shown to help nursing women increase their milk production.

9.       Help for Anemia

Many women today suffer from Anemia, either because their diet is not balanced, or because the quality of their food is not good and not nutrient-dense enough. This creates a lot of imbalances in general, but for women a direct effect is often anemia (lack of iron). Moringa leaves can help balance this mineral deficiency out, which is powerful, especially in regions where good food is hard to find.

10.   Tissue protection

Moringa helps protect the overall cardio-vascular system. It is a powerful help for blood lipid control, and plaque formation management in arteries

11.   Very high plant protein ratio

Moringa is amongst the plants with the highest concentration of proteins.

It contains 18-20 amino acids, including all 8 essential amino acids (that you can easily find in meat products). This is an important part of Moringa’s nutritious benefits as our body can not manufacture itself those Essential Amino Acids, and need to have them daily from an external source.

12.   Moringa Oil: a non-rancid natural preservative

Because Moringa Oil doesn’t spoil or become rancid, t is a very good alternative to your salad dressings, and even as a frying oil. People say that it has even more attributes than Olive Oil but this still needs to be confirmed. As for now, we know it is an excellent alternative, that you can even use as a complete natural preservative and lubricant like for machinery for example..! Obviously, like any other oil, it has to be clean, organic and Cold-pressed. If not, I am not sure whether it will be that beneficial anymore.

As a conclusion, I hope you now know a bit more about this amazing tree and plant. The more we spend time studying what Nature gives us, the more we realize that there is everything out there: all we need to be healthy, energized and thriving human beings is in Nature around us.

In Love and Health,

Stephanie
